Kristin Rowland overcame her challenges and made the PFL a habit

Hi, my name is Kristin.

I, like many of you have struggled with my weight most of my life. It started at a very young vulnerable age when I had some traumatic events take place. Eating was a big thing in my family. For every party, every celebration, every happy thing, every sad thing, we would eat. Food was the center point of all get togethers so; naturally I turned to food as my coping method, my out, my constant. It came naturally to me to use food as my coping method. It would be the thing that I could keep most secret, on top of the other secrets I was keeping. I buried my head in it and before I was even old enough to know what was happening I had developed a very unhealthy relationship with food, I was addicted!

I can't ever remember a time when I did not think I was fat. I remember going to have my 6th grade school picture taken and being disgusted with myself because I was so fat. My self-worth and self-esteem was severely damaged from the trauma I had endured. I am now 30 years old and have spent the last 20 years of my life feeling inadequate. It wasn't until I finished high school and started college that I really realized I had some major problems. Through multiple years of on and off counseling I was able to deal with, process and heal my broken spirit. But...I was still left with my addiction to food and no way of knowing how to fix it. I tried diet after diet, lost weight then gained it back. Sound familiar??

And then early this year I had some medical problems that left me in excruciating pain, I could not function. After going to the doctor and receiving a not so pleasant diagnosis I got scared. Although it was nothing life threatening it affected me in a way I was not expecting. It made me realize the importance of doing what I can to take care of myself. I felt I had let my body down. I knew there was nothing I could do to change this diagnosis but that there were many things about my health that I could change. It was at that point that I KNEW I had to find a way to be healthy. I had to... there had to be a way... people do it all the time.

Then I came across Body Buddies. I was desperate and when I read Kristy's posts, she seemed to get me. She didn't even know me yet everything she spoke about felt like she was speaking directly to me. I felt connected to her so I reached out to her and sent her a message. She returned my message, stuck by my side, and assisted me in changing my life. She was real with me, she promised me it would not be easy but it would be well worth it. I just needed someone with knowledge who believed in me and believed I could change. From that point forward I started following the Power Foods Lifestyle and it has changed me. It’s been almost 11 months now and I see no other way of living.

Kristy has developed a way of life that is maintainable for anyone who truly wants to be healthy. Just a few perks to the Power Foods Lifestyle: I am not hungry, I don't have cravings, I have regained control of myself and now have a very healthy relationship with food and the role that it is meant to play in our everyday life. I have learned to love training my body, my mind, and my muscles. All of this came by making ONE good choice at a time, snowballing into months of healthy choices. It became easier and easier the longer I did it and now it’s just habit, a very healthy habit :)

I don't mention how many pounds I have lost, my measurements or anything about that because I feel that is not what is important, it is great and I LOVE it, but it only came after I simply learned to love and respect myself. What is important to me is that I am in control of myself. I run my mind; my mind no longer runs me. Food no longer runs my life; I am no longer obsessed with what I eat. Now I plan my meals according to the Power Foods Lifestyle and beyond the process of planning I never have to think about it again. It is the most freeing feeling I have ever experienced! Before every thought every day of my life was consumed by food for nearly 20 years. I am happier than I have ever been and I know every single one of you can do this too!

Let the FEAR go. Fear is what holds us back, whether it is fear of failure, fear of success or fear of change. Surround yourselves with people who believe in you. Be selfish, get healthy and take care of yourself so you can adequately take care of the people in your life. Be patient, be persistent! Change does not happen overnight, if it is the right kind of change! A years’ time will pass whether you are taking care of yourself or not. We all have a reason, a story, and/or a secret that has gotten us to this hopeless place. But, keep in mind that we cannot change things that happen to us but when we are old enough to learn better then it becomes our responsibly to do better. It becomes a simple choice to no longer be a victim, learn new ways and follow them!

My dream is to be able to motivate others who have been where I have been and experienced hardships (which is most of us, right;) and realize that you ABSOLUTELY have the ability to CHANGE, YOU have what it takes. It is a simple choice; there is no secret, no miracle, and no quick fix! Once you finally decide you want the change, do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you have to make it happen!! And use the Power Foods Lifestyle, there is no other way!
