Dezmond and his "Cookie Dough"

Dear Body Buds,
I was privileged the other day to have my younger sister, her husband, and two young boys crash at my place overnight. As I like to be a good host, I woke up early and threw together my latest favorite breakfast—Baked Banana Oats. It finished baking just a few minutes before Dezmond, the oldest of the two boys, wandered out of the bedroom saying, “Thi-Thee . . . Thi-Thee . . .” (how he says my name—Kristy).
Elated to see such a darling face in my house, I scooped him up and smothered him with good morning kisses, then asked him if he was hungry. “No,” he said, and shook his head adamantly.
“Ah, that’s too bad,” I said, “because I made you a special breakfast!” I took him over to look at the baked oat dish that was cooling on the stove. “That’s a Dezmond breakfast!”
Knowing how picky of an eater Dezmond is as well as several tricks to help young children eat, I then set out to see if I could get him to eat it.
I grabbed a spoon from a nearby drawer, then took a big scoop out of the casserole dish and took a bite right in front of him.
“Mmmmmmm . . .” I said. “I love cookie dough.” (It really did look and taste—somewhat—like cookie dough. Dezmond watched in awe as I was enjoying my bite. He then watched as I dished a few bite-size pieces onto a small plate, and carried it over to the table where I sat him down as well. Now I don’t have children of my own yet, but after watching my siblings with their kids and hearing advice from my mom as well, I decided to then leave the table and let him do the rest. Apparently, most children don’t like to be forced to eat. They would rather think it’s their own idea!
Amelia, Dezmond’s mom, and I peeked around the corner and watched as he picked up the fork, then curiously began poking at the “cookie dough.” I ran and grabbed my camera to capture some shots as his curiosity turned into enjoyment as he began eating the “cookie dough.”
Amelia couldn’t believe that he was eating something so new and “foreign” to him and I was thrilled as well! Now I don’t know if this will work for every child, but it sure is a good tactic to try to get them to eat a healthy and nutritious Power Foods breakfast!

Here’s how I made it—I hope you can get the kiddos in your life to eat “Cookie Dough” too! :) This is a variation of my "Baked Banana Oats" Recipe that is available to Body Buddies World members.
