The Time Is Now
Take a moment to think about the goals you have set for yourself that you want to accomplish by the end of this year. Maybe you set them back in January as part of a New Year’s Resolution? Perhaps they are goals that developed throughout the year? They might even be goals you have recently set in the past few weeks as summer has come to an end and you have a few things you now want to accomplish before year’s end. It does not matter how long you have had these goals, it only matters now that we take stock now of where we are along our journey to meet them, what we are doing in order to get there and then evaluating and adjusting our plan to ensure we do get there on time. We will not change the goals or expectations we had set for ourselves. No, that would be creating excuses to let ourselves off the hook, of breaking commitments to ourselves, and that is not acceptable! Instead our goals will remain strong and lofty, but we will hone our skills, focus our plans, and then act accordingly to reach and exceed those goals.
There is a reason you set those goals in the first place. Somewhere inside you, there is a desire to make reaching that goal a reality. In setting the goal, it is something that is out of reach and beyond your grasp from where you were when you first set it. As you are here now, think about are you closer to meeting that goal at this moment? If yes, what have you done effectively that has moved you closer to reaching it? If no, what actions must you take that will push you closer to reaching that goal? With those questions answered you can formulate a plan to get where you want to be. See, it is not always about motivation or being in the mood. Our moods change often. No one is completely motivated all the time to accomplish every single goal they set out to do. At some point, beyond all the gym memes running around on social media, and all the selfie gym shots, and people posting pictures of their sweaty gym shirts, it comes down to just you and the decisions you make for you. You set this goal because you WANT it!! That is proof enough that it is within your ability to achieve this goal and not leave it out there as a wish. The goal does not have to change. Your plan simply needs to be adjusted. But most importantly, with a new and improved plan, comes action and work. Plans are useless if not implemented to their full potential. You must execute that plan with passion, persistence and a renewed commitment to making it happen each and every day. Can you do this? There is no question that you can. Physically and mentally you are equipped and more than capable. Will it challenge and test you along the way? No doubt that it will. That is the point of setting goals that are just beyond our grasp. They are meant to push us, challenge us, and force us to work hard. But that does not mean they can stop us! Only you can stop you from achieving any goal. When you are no longer willing to make the effort, then you will stop you and you. But there is a reason you set this goal. There is a passion, a desire, a fire within you that wants to accomplish this. You want to prove it to yourself that you can do more, be more, go further than you thought. That time is now. The end of the year has not arrived yet. Do not brush off the remainder of this year, this month, or this week, and lie to yourself saying you will start next year, or even next week. Start now, today!
Formulate and adjust the plan now. Recommit yourself to finishing what you started and what you truly want to do. Use the day to tweak your plan, and then take whatever actions are necessary to be prepared to start. Cook healthy meals for the week. Wash your gym clothes. Buy new workout shoes. Update your gym playlist…..whatever it is you need to do in order to be ready to work. Do it. Write it all down. Commit to it today and take the first steps to making it happen. Tomorrow, take one more step. And then another; and another. With each action you move yourself closer to your goal, and have committed that much more to making it happen. You can do this. The days, weeks, and months are going to pass no matter what. What will you do to make the most of each day in order to know that you have kept your commitment to yourself and you have accomplished more than you thought possible? It is not a question of, “Can you?”, but it is all a matter of, “Will you?” Make it happen. Train Hard.
